Freedom is a New Tab extension. It keeps your dashboard, wallpapers, and claimed games on this device. It does not run an account server for the New Tab page.
Settings, wallpapers, shortcuts, feed caches, manual claims, and store library snapshots are saved in the browser’s local extension storage. They are not uploaded to a Freedom backend.
If the weather widget is on, Freedom may use your browser’s location (or a city you type) to fetch a forecast from Open-Meteo and a place name from BigDataCloud. Those services receive the coordinates or city you use for weather. You can turn the widget off or set a city instead of using geolocation.
Typed searches go to the search engine you chose (or the browser’s default). Suggestion requests may go to that engine’s suggest API. Frequently visited shortcuts can read the browser’s top sites and, while you type an address, matching history entries. Freedom does not send your history to a Freedom server.
Enabled news and game feeds are fetched from the publishers and LootScraper feed hosts listed in the extension settings. Only the feeds you turn on are requested.
Connecting Steam, Epic, GOG, Humble, itch.io, or Amazon is optional. When you connect a store, the browser asks for permission to read that store’s site using your existing login, so Freedom can mark games as claimed. Library data stays in local storage. You can disconnect a store and remove that permission in the browser’s extension settings.
Subscribe opens Stripe Checkout in a new tab. Payment details are handled by Stripe, not by the extension. Promo visibility (including “already subscribed”) is stored only in this browser.
